As a Central Saint Martins graduate in 2006, Christopher Kane worked while studying for Giles Deacon and Russell Sage. In 2005 he won the Lancôme Colour Award, and his talent was noticed by Donatella Versace. He then worked for Versace on the label’s Atelier Couture collection. His sense of glamour and sexiness married well with Versace’s vision.
Awarded with the Scottish Young Designer of the Year, he went on to be noticed by the retail giant Topshop, who ordered a capsule collection. From then on the partnerships continued to increase: Swarovski on a jewellery collection, and Manolo Blahnik on a shoe collection... And if that wasn’t enough he continued consulting for the Versace house. Christopher Kane doesn’t stop subjugating the fashion industry and collected more awards in 2007: New Designer of The Year at the British Fashion Awards.
Autumn / Winter 2009 Show: The Spring-Summer collection takes inspiration in Lolita, Nancy Reagan, and religion. Gingham, bra cups, pieced dresses, and pastels; the result is sophisticated but pretty. His digitally printed dresses and tee-shirts are definitely also on the must-have map.
