Women’s Trousers and Women's Jeans
Women's trousers, women's jeans and women's shorts needn’t be a chore – once you are armed with all the information you need to make the most of your figure, then it should actually be a breeze! How to choose among a variety of popular styles: skinny, straight leg or bootcut, high-waisted or hipster, cropped, capris or full-length? Read our handy tips below, and then start shopping for the right pair for you.
- If you are petite, or wish to give the illusion of height, then a straight or bootcut pair of trousers or jeans will elongate legs. Hem them so they are slightly longer than your normal trousers and wear with a pair of high heels which are mostly concealed. A pleat or front crease that runs down the front of the leg will help, too. Wearing a single colour head-to-toe will also make you look taller. For instance, pair a black top with a pair of black trousers. Another secret is to match your footwear to your trousers to instantly add inches. When it comes to women's shorts, a pair of short shorts (but not necessarily hot pants!) will elongate legs for those who have petite frames. Consider wearing with wedges or heeled sandals to really give your legs a boost.
- Tall and slim frames are lucky in that they can wear most styles. Skinny and straight legs look particularly good, while a statuesque build can carry off a wide leg without looking stunted. If you are tall, it is probably best to avoid ¾ capris and extremely cropped styles, as these will just look as if they are a size too small! Instead, try a chic ankle-skimming length.
- Pear-shaped ladies will find a hipster style will help you avoid the problem of finding a pair of jeans that fit through the hips but then gape at the waist. Those who are curvy around the hip area should avoid cargo styles and heavy pockets, as this only serves to accentuate the area. Avoid tapered styles unless you are tall and slim – it can make you look heavier around the hips, than you really are. If you are looking to draw attention away from your lower half, then wear a dark coloured pair of trousers or jeans and a light coloured top, to draw the eye upwards. Avoid bulky pockets, or excessive embellishment, as this will only draw more attention to the area.
Women's shorts
- When it comes to shorts, a pair of short shorts (but not necessarily hot pants!) will elongate legs for those who have petite frames. Consider wearing with wedges or heeled sandals to really give your legs a boost.
- Pear shapes and those who are curvy around the hip area should avoid cargo styles and heavy pockets, as this only serves to accentuate the area. Instead, choose a nice longer length pair of tailored women's shorts.
- Shorts with a mid-length leg, are universally flattering. Unlike knee-length shorts that cut your leg in half visually, shorter lengths make your legs look longer, while still covering problem areas like the upper thigh.
