The house was founded in 1945 by Pierre Balmain. The sharp creations, with sophistication and a bit of extra audacity quickly became one of three prominent brands of the era, along with Dior and Balenciaga. From 1955 to 1962 a certain Karl Lagerfeld worked as an assistant.
